Armand Hammer teamed up with Grammy-nominated producer The Alchemist for Haram, a record that marked a turning point for the duo and became their most acclaimed and best-selling release. It was the first time ELUCID and billy woods had worked with a single producer, and Alchemist rose to the challenge by reshaping his own style to meet their vision.
The result is a fearless album that balances accessibility with experimentation. ‘Bring The Stars Out’ bristles with intensity, ‘Chicharrones’ rides on asymmetric drone, while ‘Peppertree’ and ‘Stonefruit’ defy categorisation. Nowhere else in either discography will you find such a bold fusion of ideas.
Guests help elevate the record further: Earl Sweatshirt’s appearance on ‘Falling Out the Sky’ is already a classic, while KAYANA lights up ‘Black Sunlight’ and Fielded’s voice haunts ‘Aubergine’. Contributions from Quelle Chris, Curly Castro and Amani add firepower to a set that’s as cohesive as it is wide-ranging.
With the benefit of hindsight, Haram feels even stronger than it did at release — a singular collaboration that continues to open new doors with every listen.
